The AJM Council of Honor calls for greater responsibility on the part of journalists in their informing about the development of events caused by the tragic incident in Gostivar, when two individuals lost their lives, especially since Macedonia is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic community, and therefore the role and responsibility of the journalists is exceptionally important. Except for objectivity, impartiality and professionalism, calming tendencies are necessary, and not sensationalism and articles which contribute to putting passions and inter-ethnic tensions alight. The Code of the Association of Journalists of Macedonia calls for such journalistic behavior, and according to it, the journalist shall not use hate speech and shall not incite violence and discrimination on any grounds: national, religious, racial, gender, political… We once again call upon our colleagues – journalists to advance their work to meet the professional standards and to demonstrate high awareness about the sensitivity of the situation. Skopje, March 10th 2012, Council of Honor
