“Krste Misirkov” Award for long-standing work in journalism

Risto Popovski is director and editor in chief of the Independent news agency Makfax in Skopje, who spend most of his professional life working in the news agencies. Popovski, dedicated his four-decade work as a journalist, to the News (with capital N) as an essential and fundamental pillar of all types of journalism – radio, TV, printed, as well as all genders of journalism – information, feature story, commentary. He has written over 100,000 news, always trying to be as professional as possible.
   Risto Popovski began his career in journalism in 1965, as a volunteer in Radio Skopje. During his studies in Ljubljana he worked as a correspondent from Slovenia, reporting about the most important events. He got his first full-time employment in 1970 in Radio Skopje. Since 1974, Popovski worked in Tanjug news agency, in the department for Macedonia, progressing from a journalist, reporter, and editor to director. In 1992 he has established the independent news agency Makfax, which started its work in May 1993. Makfax is one of the first private media in Macedonia and the first private news agency on the territory of former SFRY.
   Risto Popovski is president of the Association of Printed Media of Macedonia and board member of South-East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), which is part of the International Press Institute, based in Vienna.
Popovski is born on August 30, 1945 in Galicnik. He has received several awards, including the annual award of the Association of Journalists in Macedonia, back in 1980.






On July 14, 2004 the Association of Journalists of Macedonia presented “Krste Misirkov” award for long-standing work in journalism, as well as the annual radio, TV and printed media awards for 2003.
